‘Modi’s ‘Surgical Strike’ on Rs 500/1000 has killed 25 People’- Gundu Rao
“Modi’s ‘Surgical Strike’ on Rs 500/1000 has already killed 25 People, and many more will die in the nearest future’- Dinesh Gundu Rao, working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), during a press meet at Circuit House, Mangaluru.
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Circuit House, to a question posed by a journo about PM Modi’s decision on demonetization of Rs 500/1000 currency notes, Dinesh Gundu Rao, working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) said, “The Modi government’s decision to launch ‘surgical strike’ on ₹500 and ₹1,000 note has created chaos and confusion all over the country. The sudden decision has literally taken a toll on people – with the total death toll rising up to 25 so far in various parts of the Country, and will rise more in the coming days.” Who is responsible for these deaths that have taken place due to the implementation of this move? Who is responsible for the loss of business in crores throughout the country? Is Modi ready to answer these questions?
In the meantime, on a lighter note, Minister Ramanath Rai said, “Here is an example- in a village, the villagers want to get rid of a crocodile which has been creating a nuisance to them. So they drained all the water out from the pond assuming that the crocodile will die with no water. Unfortunately, the crocodile still survived, instead, all the fishes in the pond died. Similarly is the situation of this currency crisis- the rich like the crocodile are still happy and alive, while the common people, like the fishes are on the verge of dying.” Rai also mentioned about a WhatsApp message, which said, “ATM out of Order. Banks Out of Money. People also out of money. But Modi Out of Country (In Japan?)”.
He further said, “Although it is a good plan imposed by PM Modi, but it was launched in a hurry and it lacks far sightedness. And we can see the outcome of it. I don’t oppose the action of the Union government taken to curb the black money. But marginal vendors, farmers and common people are in trouble due to this step. There wouldn’t have been long queues in banks, if transactions with old currency notes had been allowed till Dec.30. Smaller denomination notes should have been made available in plenty before this scheme as launched. Instead of bringing back all the black money stocked in foreign countries, PM Modi has done a big mistake in launching this demonetization scheme in India. Prior to Modi became a PM, only Rs 10,000 crore was sent abroad, but after Modi became the PM, over Rs 30,000 crore was deposited in various banks in foreign countries.”
“Modi’s present currency scheme has hurt everyone, from students to traders, to small businesses and many others. Ban on currency notes of Rs 500/1000 has caused financial hardships and businesses have been hit and many daily wage laborers are feeling the brunt of this already. Stinking rich people having black money are still in peace but it’s the common people who are facing the hardships.” added Rao. Replying to a query asked by a reporter regarding the the series of assault and stabbing incidents in Ullal, Gundu Rao said, “BJP and various other saffron groups are creating disharmony among the community, and they are dividing communities and creating conflicts between them. It is sad to note that Dakshina Kannada district has become a victim of tactics played by BJP and other saffron groups hate politics. They are polarizing the youth on emotional grounds, and as a result there has been animosity between communities. So in order to bring awareness about secular values this nation has stood for, we are hosting a mega convention to mark the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of Indira Gandhi”.
“Although there has been rumours that we are playing partiality in these issues, I want to make it clear that we are taking anyone’s side, instead will take action against anyone who takes law into one’s hands, no matter if they belong to BJP or any saffron organizations. We should all know that no one has the right kill anyone and no one should be murdered for being a member of a political party or any organization. Through our forthcoming celebrations of Indira Gandhi’s 100th birth anniversary, we want to send a clear message that we should all work in unity for the betterment of the nation, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or colour. The anniversary celebrations will be led by minister Ramanath Rai, along with party workers from Mangaluru, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Kodagu districts. The anniversary celebrations will kick off on 19 November 2016 at Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru and will culminate on 19 November 2017,” added Gundu Rao.
When asked about what action would be taken against Minister Tanveer Sait for watching porn during a function in Bellary, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “Action against Tanveer Sait will be taken if it is proved that he intentionally watched porn. Browsing through messages on mobile phone during programmes is not a big thing. As per Sait he has said that he was not watching the porn on purpose, some images popped up and he glimpsed through them. I too watch for important messages on my mobile during any functions, and it’s common, and frankly speaking, it’s not a mistake. But the investigation is still on, and action will be taken only after Sait is proven guilty by the investigators” he clarified.
Switching gears to a different topic, when a journo asked about the decision to expel senior congress leader Janardhan Poojary from the Congress party for his constant criticism of CM and congress officials/govt., Gundu Rao said, “We can’t hurry up in making a decision to terminate him, for he has been a strong supporter of Congress for decades and has been the backbone of congress party here. In due time if things go out of control, proper action and decision will be taken. When asked whether he has been invited for the Indira Gandhi 100th anniversary celebrations, Gundu Rao said, “No special invitation has been sent to anyone. We have invited the concerned people via emails, even the CM, so Poojary is no exception”. When a reporter asked, if Poojary shows up for the anniversary celebrations, will he be allowed to address the gathering, for which Gundu Rao said, “We will have to think about it and apart from that, no further comments?”.
District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, chief whip of legislative council Ivan D’Souza, Youth Congress leader Mithun Rai, MCC corporators, district Congress interim president Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.
