Nrityaantaranga – “A journey to the inner soul of Dance”

‘Nrityaantaranga’ is a series of dance through which the attempt is made to understand the art form better. It is a journey to the inner substance of dances i.e., Indian Classical dances and mainly Bharatanatyam. It is the dream project of Vidwan B.Deepak Kumar, Director of Sri Mookambika Cultural Academy(R.), Puttur. In a small town like Puttur where cultural events are very meager and the students of classical arts have less chance either to perform or to watch any cultural shows , Vidwan Deepak Kumar had thought creating a platform for young upcoming talents wherein they could showcase their Talent and consequently develop the experience of solo and group stage performances.

To put this idea into action ‘Nrityaantaranga’ was designed. Here the key idea is to give a platform to the budding artistes to perform and through this training them for facing the audience in future. Another idea is to create a good and well informed Audience or Kala Rasikas for the classical dance. Today the audience is lacking of proper information about the art forms. Hence this platform tries to give proper and detailed information about the dance numbers performed and also different aspects as per how better to understand the dances performed. The event also provides platform for discussions related to the dances performed so that the audience are confirmed of understanding the Core-Antaranga of Dance-Nritya. Usually any public performances expect huge budget which is not possible for many of the aspiring talents.

Keeping this very fact in mind ‘Nrityaantaranga’ came into existence which the motto of creating events with minimum cost of expenditure. Mr.Vipin of Darbe, Puttur with a view to support the art, provided a hall ‘Mangalamritha’ in its initial series without any charges, whom the Academy remembers with full gratitude. Now the events are conducted in the newly constructed Hall of the Academy – ‘Shashi Shankara’. Nrityaantaranga aims at reducing the costs of expenditure in every phase so as to reduce the burden on the students. Of late, the fame of this project is spreading all over and artistes from other places also are applying for the series. Sri Mookambika Cultural Academy is arranging for this outside artistes also as the people of Puttur will have a very good opportunity to witness good performances. But for these events the Cultural Academy is expending from its own funds.
