Coimbatore, Aug 23 (IANS) Shahan Ali Mohsin from Agra (Team Meco Racing), Nirmal Umashankar from Chennai (Team Meco Racing) and Bengaluru boy Ricky Donison (Team BPC Racing) emerged champions in their respective categories in Round 3 of the 12th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Karting Championship which concluded at the Kari Motor Speedway here on Sunday.
The day started off with the pre-finals and final races of Micro Max, Junior Max and Senior Max categories.
The pre-finals race in Micro Max category saw Mohsin dominating the race. Chirag Ghorpade, representing Team BPC Racing, who started off from pole position, clocked the second best time. He was followed by Nikhil Bohra, who secured third.
In Junior Max, Umashankar, who started from pole position in the pre-finals, kept the spectators entertained with his superb racing skills. He crossed the finish line first and was followed by Mohmmed Nallwalla and Akash Gowda.
In Senior Max category, Ameya Bafna put up a tough fight to win the race. Finishing second was Nayan Chatterjee and Vishnu Prasad managed to cross the line third.
In the final race, it was a stiff competition between Mohsin and Bohra throughout. However, Mohsin continued to dominate and clinched the top spot. Bohra, who was also brilliant, finished second. Chirag, who led Heat 1 and 2 races on Day 1, crossed the finish line third.
In Junior Max, Umashankar battled it out aggressively with Akash Gowda and crossed the finish line first. Akash was second with Mohmmed Nallwalla third.
It was Ricky Donison the winner of Round 2 who took away the chequered flag in the Senior Max final yet again. Bafna drove his way to a second place finish and the third place was secured by Nayan Chatterjee.
The next round will be held in Bengaluru from September 25 to 26 at the Meco Kartopia track.
