Mom Thresia & Daughter Sharel Noronha are Mother & Daughter Look Alike 2017 Contest Winners

Mangaluru: For the Fourth Year Mangalorean.com had a kept tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day by inviting readers to submit photos that capture the uncanny likenesses between mothers and daughters because let’s face it, women can’t help but be like their mothers. Our mothers are ingrained in us, whether we have our mother’s warm smile, our mother’s passion for gardening, or our mother’s knack for making a perfectly delicious dessert or Cake. How many mothers and daughters have been told they look exactly like each other? Well, it was time to prove it this year too, when Mangalorean.com organized the Mother and daughter Look Alike 2017 contest, in association with Ideal Ice Cream and V4 News.

And the response was so much, among a few hundred, including locals we had entries come from South Africa, USA, London, Australia, Germany, Canada and Gulf Countries. Sometimes it’s fairly obvious that parents and children are related — it’s in the genes, after all. In some cases, it’s almost like looking at a mirror image. Many of the entries received had mothers and daughters look so alike, that Judges had a tough time to select the finalists, and then pick the three winners. Finally it was over- and we had the prize distribution celebration held on 17 May 2017 at Ideal’s Ice Cream Parlour graced by the winners family and friends- and also our well wishers. The earlier date of prize distribution ceremony which was scheduled on the Mother’s Day (14 May 2017) had to be postponed for today, since couple of the winners were out of town.

“Words are not enough to express the unconditional love that exists between a mother and a daughter.”- The mother-daughter relationship is one of the strongest and complex bond in the world. It is considered one of the most powerful connections in nature that only mothers and daughters understand and share among themselves. The most difficult part in a mother-daughter relationship is when they see their child make wrong choices in life. As a daughter, you can love your mother or hate her but at the end of the day, she will always be there to comfort you and be your strength in facing all the problems that come your way.

A mother’s treasure is her daughter and she will love her more than her life same as a daughter loves her mother since the very day she opened her eyes. Whatever the relationship is between a mother and a daughter, there will always be this special bond and layers of happiness that surround them and this relationship sets the stage for all other relationships. Whatever the relationship is between a mother and a daughter, there will always be this special bond and layers of happiness that surround them and this relationship sets the stage for all other relationships. Also did people mistake you and your daughter for sisters? Did you frequently hear “She looks exactly like you!”? Did strangers comment on the striking resemblance between you and your mini-me, etc etc- all these and much more comments came to a final end when the final decision were made made by the judges to pick the three winners among vast entries that we received in our unique Mother-Daughter Look-Alike contest, that was organised as part of Mother’s Day.

The Mothers and Daughters who entered our Mother-Daughter Look-Alike contest shared more than looks. They shared many of the same interests, and they seemed like they hanged out with each other frequently. Team Mangalorean was so surprised to see the tremendous response to the contest, where we and the judges has a tough time to narrowed the entries down to the top 10 finalists- among them the three winners were selected. The amazing ten finalists sure did make picking a winner tough on the panel of judges. They may looked the same in the face, but once they added matching shirts, pants, accessories, make-up, it really did became a mirror image! Anyways, finally it was all over, and the final three winners were picked and awarded the load full of exciting gifts.

The chief guest for the prize distribution was Mukund Kamath- the Managing Director of Ideal Ice Cream- who was also joined on the dais by his mother, Jaya Kamath and son, Mohith; along with Violet Pereira- Proprietor and Editor-in-Chief of Mangalorean.com. After a couple of quiz games, it was time to celebrate the prestigious moments with the winners, who were anxiously looking forward to receive their bag full of gifts sponsored by our esteemed well-wishers. Speaking during the occasion, Mukund Kamath said, ” Ideal Ice Cream has partnered with various organizations in organizing various events involving family- but this Mother Daughter Look Alike Contest is kind of unique and I compliment Mangalorean.com for such a initiative taken in organizing such a contest, where the love and resemblance in purely highlighted. I feel proud to be a mother because mother and daughter bond influences our lives in ways we may not even realize. The mother-daughter relationship is the most powerful bond in the world, for better or for worse. No other childhood experience is as compelling as a young girl’s relationship with her mother. Thresia and Sharel Noronha (1st Prize)

The second place was bagged by Mamatha and  Ananya Aithal- accepting the prize, daughter Ananya said, ” I am grateful to God for giving me a very caring and loving mother, who is always supportive in whatever activities of mine. More than a mother she is my best friend. Right from the time I opened my eyes, I remember seeing the most beautiful woman in front of me, that was my mum. If anyone has taught me to age with grace and beauty, is because of my mother. She has been compassionate, strong and tough —all rolled into one. She cares about me and everyone in the family. I have learnt so much from her, and what I see in myself is a part of my dear Mother”.

The third place was bagged by Chandrika S Nayak and her daughter Aishwarya K- and accepting the prize, mother Chandrika expressed her relationship with her daughter, saying ” The mother-daughter relationship is ultimately fulfilling. There is value in the mother-daughter tie because both care for one another and share a strong investment in the family as a whole. Mother-daughter relationships are complex and diverse. Some mothers and daughters are best friends- and that’s how our relationship has been.  We talk through everything. And undoubtedly, there’s a hint of all these things in most relationships.
