Communication is an integral instinct of all living things. Our ability to communicate in so many modes is unique to humans on earth. The loss of one or two senses certainly can impair communication, but it does not have to stop communication. The field of speech, language pathology and audiology is dedicated to the understanding of normal communication and hearing processes, the application of that knowledge to the identification, treatment, and prevention of communication disorders in children and adults. Speech, language pathologists and audiologists provide a range of services, which includes both assessment and management of communication disorders and also, play a major role in public awareness and prevention of these disorders. And at Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing students apart from academics they also take part in co-curricular activities and also sports.
As they say that spending time with God through prayer and His word is a prerequisite for having a great life and fulfilling your purpose. The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be. It is but, essential that we honour the Almighty before we continue with the rest of a event- and keeping that in mind, the inaugural ceremony of this sports event began with a prayer song by the students, which was followed by welcome address by the Dr Mahesh, the Vice Principal of the College. The inauguration of the sports event was done by lighting of the lamp by chief guest- Donnet Joseph D’souza- Physical Director at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, along with Fr Richard Coelho- Director, FMCI; Fr Ajith Menezes- Administrator, FMMC; Dr Sanjeev Rai- Chief of Research, FMCI; Fr Rudoplh Ravi D’sa- Administrator, FMMCH; Prof Akhilesh P M-Principal and Dr Mahesh-Vice Principal.
In his inaugural address, chief guest Donnet D’souza said, “While I stand here to speak it remembers me of my college days, when I was actively involved in sports. When you stand here inside this indoor stadium, and then go out to beat the heat with all your positive energy and thoughts in mind, it would make you a successful person. A negative feeling and energy will drain you. This is the essential of Physical education. Fitness in mind and body takes you a long way in life and in your career. These words by our teachers during our college days made a strong impact in my life. Today, as I stand before you as a teacher of Physical education at a reputed institution, I can say, confidently and with conviction, that a student with sports background and hard work in academics can be a successful person in life”
“Sports is the only medium, which puts a student to all tests in his daily core of life. Your Director and staff are one living example for this. As you are all going out in this world as trained speech and hearing professionals, keep in mind that as professionals you have to be role model to the society. Let us live and cherish the oath that we take as we leave this institution into the harsh world and be responsible citizens and enjoy life as it comes by, and let us not make money and wealth the essence of our life, instead also serve the suffering human kind who need our help. Wishing you all luck in this sporting event, and also in your future career” added D’souza.
Following his speech, the chief guest along with other dignitaries on the dais unveiled the Event Scroll, followed by unveiling the trophies. The team flags were handed over to the respective team captains- Captain Rhea Shaji representing Team Yellow; Captain Lajiya George of Team Green; Captain Jyothi Jose of Team Red; and Captain Adline D’souza of Team Blue, by College Principal Prof Akhilesh P M. The vote of thanks was proposed by sports secretary Akhil Varghese, and the programme was compered by Ms Jesel D’costa of FMCSH.
