Month-long Ramzan fasting begin from Saturday in Coastal Districts

Udupi: Muslims in the Coastal Districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will begin the Ramadan fasting from Saturday, May 27.

This was announced by the DK district Khazi Al Haz Thwaka Ahamed Musliyar and Udupi District Khazi Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar.

The announcement was made as the new moon was sighted at Kappad beach, near Kozhikode, on Friday evening.

All major Kazis confirmed the sighting of the crescent, heralding the holiest Islamic month of Ramadan. For a month, Muslims will fast during the day, engage in special prayers and keep away from many temporal activities.

They will increase charity and Quran recital, and hold special prayers. However, Iftar parties will enliven the social gatherings in Ramzan.
