Moodbidri: A national festival of culture, art and music, ‘Alva’s Virasat 2015’, got off to a rousing start at the Alva’s campus, opening it’s stage for the cultural cocktail here, on January 8.
The dignitaries were taken in a grand procession to the venue. Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation, welcomed the gathering. District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
In his inaugural speech, Ramanath Rai appreciated Dr Mohan Alva for his vision, zeal, enthusiasm, commitment, and dedication towards tradition and culture. This cultural festival is an opportunity for thousands of people to present their talents and show the heritage of our great civilization. He further said that Mohan Alva is giving equal importance to education, culture and sports and Alva’s Virasat is the medium to exhibit the talent of the youth. Moodbidri is a small village but it is identified in the world through such programmes which speak volumes of art and culture of the district. Rai congratulated Dr Alva for the whole idea of initiating this festival and wished him more success.
‘Alva’s Virasat 2015’ award was conferred on Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan on the occasion. Addressing the gathering Amjad Ali said that Music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and bonds people even thousands of miles apart. It attracts everyone. He also said that a programme of this kind has never been organized anywhere in the world, it is because of Dr Mohan Alva’s dedication towards retaining culture and tradition of the country, he has organized this programme.
Chairman of Nitte education trust, Vinaya Hegde delivered the presidential address. HOD of Alva’s Pre University College Kannada Division Kidoor Venugopal Shetty compered the programme. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Former Minister K Amarnath Shetty, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty, Karnataka Bank managing director P Jayarama Bhat, Canara Bank CEO Krishna Kumar, Nadoja Dr G Shankar, President of SDCC Bank Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, Suresh Bhandary, Ramachandra Shetty and Srinivas Alva were also present.
