More than 200 Houses Submerged in Bantwal, Water Level Still Rising
Bantwal: More than 200 houses have been submerged after the water level increased in the Netravathi river in Bantwal here on August 10.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall on August 9, the water level in the river has increased to 10.1 meters. More than 200 houses and 54 shops have submerged. Over 1000 people have been sheltered in the Ganji Kendra in Sharada School and the Inspection Bungalow.
Due to the overflowing of Netravathi river water has also gushed into the house of former minister Janardhan Poojary in Bhandaribettu. Poojary and his family members have been shifted to a safer place.
The Buntara Bhavan in Bantwal is also flooded with the parking area submerged. Water has entered the ground floor of the building. The Diamond school and the Sparsh Kalamandir have also submerged.
In Talapadi 17 houses have submerged. The Talapady Service road on Mangaluru – Bengaluru National Highway has submerged and the traffic movement has been stopped. The water level in the Nethravathi river has increased to 11.7 meters well above the danger mark of 8.5 meters. On August 10, morning the water level was 11.6 meters. In Marnabailu – Panolibailu roads are flooded and vehicles have come to a halt. Vehicular movement has been banned on Mani, Uppinangadi, Puttur and Beltangady.
