Mother of Sorrows Church hosts Sarvadharma Deepavali

Udupi: “Light leads to life”, said the former Principal of Poorna Prajna Evening College, Dr Madhvi Bhandary. She was speaking during the Sarvadharma Deepavali celebrations, jointly organized by the Sauharda Samiti, Catholic Sabha Udupi unit and Mother of Sorrows Church, at the Church premises here, on November 2.

“Due to injustice and greed, the society has been destroyed. Anti-social elements are trying to destroy peace in the society, the media too sometimes highlights rumours as truth which creates confusion among the people. Instead of being a part of the violence in any way, we should all promote peace and harmony in the society. When there is peace and harmony among the people there will be positive developments in the society. Diwali the festival of lights is celebrated by people of all religions, we should respect all religions and live with peace and harmony”.

Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Fr Fred Mascarenhas presided over the programme.

Dr Susheel Jathanna, Director of Lombard Memorial Hospital and Global Mutli Speciality Hospital, Khaleel Ahmed, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary of Catholic Educational Society, Fr Royson Fernandes, Benedicta D’Souza, Gratian Buthello and others were present.

The programme started with a prayer dance by the students of St Mary’s School. Alphonse D’Costa welcomed the gathering, Mohammed Maula delivered the vote of thanks, Amritha compered the programme.

Around 500 diyas were lighted on the occasion of the Deepavali celebrations, various skits, dance and other programmes were beautifully conducted. Leaders of all religions participated in the celebrations. The programme concluded with the distribution of sweets to all.
