MRPL Honoured for Contribution to TB Elimination Efforts on World TB Day 2025

Mangalore: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) was recognized for its significant contribution to the National TB Elimination Program at a World TB Day 2025 event held in Mangaluru. The event, jointly organized by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka; Dakshina Kannada District Administration; Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat; and Yenepoya Nursing College, took place at Yenepoya Deemed to be University in Deralakatte on March 24th.

The program served as a platform to raise awareness about tuberculosis prevention, treatment, and eradication, aligning with the global objectives of World TB Day. Dignitaries including Dr. H. R. Thimmaiah, District Health Officer; Dr. M. Vijay Kumar, Chancellor of Yenepoya University; and Dr. Khatija Dilshad, District Nodal TB Control Officer, addressed the audience, stressing the importance of collaborative efforts across various sectors to combat the disease.

MRPL has been instrumental in supporting the National TB Elimination Program, notably through the donation of two advanced CB-NAAT machines to Dakshina Kannada district hospitals. These machines facilitate prompt and accurate TB diagnosis, contributing significantly to improved patient outcomes. Furthermore, the company, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has consistently provided nutritional support, including millet, to TB patients, acknowledging the vital role of nutrition in recovery and overall well-being.

In recognition of MRPL’s commendable CSR endeavors, the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, presented the organization with a citation during the World TB Day program. Shri B. Prashanth Baliga, General Manager (CSR), and Dr. Aravindan, Manager (Medical Services), accepted the honor on behalf of MRPL from Dr. H. R. Thimmaiah and Dr. M. Vijay Kumar.

This recognition underscores the critical role that corporate entities like MRPL play in complementing governmental efforts to eradicate TB. With World TB Day serving as an annual reminder of the ongoing battle against tuberculosis, continued collaboration between government agencies, healthcare providers, and corporate supporters remains paramount to achieving a TB-free India.
