Mubarak not Co-operating in our Efforts to Bring Back Shankar Poojary – Ansar Ahamed
Udupi: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Udupi district president Ansar Ahamed said, “I never asked Rs 1.5 lakh from Mubarak, he is trying to wash his hands. All the allegations made by Mubarak against me are far from the truth. He or his family are not doing anything to bring Shankar Poojary out of Kuwait jail”, said Ansar Ahamed in a press meet held at the press club here on September 4.
Addressing the media persons Ansar Ahamed said, “After the arrest of Shankar Poojary his wife Joythi contacted Mubarak and his mother-in-law Thasleem many times and asked them to help in bringing back Shankar Poojary from Kuwait Jail. But Mubarak did not co-operate in our efforts to bring back Shankar”.
Ansar Ahamed further said, “When Shankar Poojary was arrested by the Kuwaiti Police, his wife Jyothi had submitted a memorandum to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje, union minister Sushma Swaraj and several of the people’s representatives, explaining about the plight of her husband and seeking their help to get him released from Kuwait jail, but so far nothing has worked in her favour. She has also requested people in important positions to help her get her husband back. When the issue was raised in the media, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis called for an emergency NRI Cell meeting at the DC office and instructed the Human Rights Protection Forum president Ravindranath Shanbhag to help the family”.
Ansar Ahamed also said, “In a recent press meet Mubarak had alleged that I have demanded Rs 1.5 Lakh to get Shankar release from the Kuwait Jail. If he has any proof let him prove it. Shankar Poojary was arrested for carrying Ultracet tablets which are banned in Kuwait. Ravindranath Shanbhag, human rights president informed us that the central government cannot help in this case”.
Now many associations have come forward to help Shankar Poojary. The Human Rights protection forum president Ravindranath Shanbhag and his legal team are trying to get Shankar Poojary released. He has appealed to all the associations to contact the Human Rights protection forum if they would like to help in any way. We hope to see Shankar Poojary released from Kuwait Jail within a month, he said.
Shankar Poojary’s wife Joythi, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leaders Sudhir Poojary and Asif Padubidri were also present.
