Mulki: Don Fernandes, staying in a rented house in Ram Nagar in Haleangadi near here, has alleged that Naveen Suvarna, a resident of Tokur  who had been staying with him, has stolen gold jewellery weighing 200 gms and worth Rs 6 lakh from a wardrobe in his house.

In a complaint to the Mulki police, he has stated that on Friday night when he arrived home, he saw that Naveen had broken open the rear door and also spotted him taking away the gold. When he tried to stop him, Naveen allegedly assaulted and pushed him and got away with the gold.

On Saturday morning, Don filed a complaint with the Mulki police. He has also said that the wardrobe was broken open with the help of a pickaxe and things in the house were found strewn around.

The canine squad followed the trail up to Naveen’s house. The case became more curious as Naveen turned up in the police station in the afternoon and gave a statement that he had to break the door open only since he had no key with him and the report about the theft was a concocted story.

The police are further investigating the case.
