Multi-level car parking may soon become a reality in City

Mangaluru: “Under the smart city project a Multi-level car parking will be constructed in the city. The DPR for the Multi-level car parking will be prepared within a month and by the end of September the construction work will begin at the old Service Bus Stand”, said Mayor Kavitha Sanil during the Traffic meeting held at Mangala hall, MCC premises here on August 28.

Addressing the mediapersons Kavitha Sanil said, “Earlier the project was given to MUDA but without any positive developments the project was withdrawn. In the city, people face severe parking problems and very soon this problem will be solved.”

Action against Mobile Canteen

Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh said, “Near MESCOM office at Bejai a Fast food vendor has encroached the road and the vendor is not allowing the parking of vehicles there.”

Mayor Kavitha responding to the deputy mayor said, “We have already raided the place but the vendor has filed a case against us. He is violating the Motor vehicle act, so the DCP and the RTO should seize the Tempo for violation of the Motor vehicle act”.

Corporator Abdul Rauf said, “The contract carriages are also a reason for traffic block in the city. Some buses do not have permits to ply on Pumpwell, Mallikatte, Kankanady road but they violate the law and ply on these routes”.

Mayor Kavitha said, “Some buses without permits ply on the road in front of the RTO but the concerned officers or the police do not take any action.”

DCP Hanumantharaya said, “We can file cases against the buses which ply illegally but we do not have the right to stop them. We need to identify the buses before taking action. If the RTO, Traffic police and the MCC officials conduct a joint operation we can cancel the permits of such buses.”

ACP Traffic Tilakchandra, former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Ganesh Hosabettu and others were also present.
