Mumbai: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road organized “Blood donation and Health Check-up Camp” in association with the Lions Club of Dahisar (supported by Lion S P Jain Eye Hospital, Dahisar and Sarala Blood Bank) on 15th March, 2015 at the Community Hall of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road.
Fr Nelson Pinto, OCD, Parish Priest and Spiritual Director of the Association, inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp. Speaking on the occasion, he encouraged the programme of blood camp and said that general people have wrong notion that by giving blood one may die. “But this is not the case, by giving blood regularly, we are not only helping others, but we help ourselves to regenerate new blood. One should donate blood regularly. The lent season is the best season to donate blood and it is also a way of penance.” He asked God’s abundant blessings on the donors. He gave a call to all to participate generously in the blood donation camp and save lives of sick and the suffering. President of Lions Club, Dahisar, Lion Prof. Alex George speaking on the occasion said that this is a good opportunity to the people of Mira Road to have general check up.
Hundreds of people queued patiently to donate blood from 8 am to 2 pm. After the medical check up, 121 people eligible to donate blood, donated their blood.
People also queued up for health check up viz. Cataract check up, Bone marrow density check up, Orthopedic check up, Diabetic check up, Skin and Hair Loss, etc.
Dr Shalmali Ballhav M D., Dr Hardik Agrawat M S (Ortho), Dr Ashuthosh Singh (BHMS), Dr Jaydeep Sawant (BHMS) and technicians Santosh Sharma, Nilesh Gautam, Ved Giri were present rendering their service in Health check up. 228 people registered for the Health check up.
Hilary D’Silva, Cultural Secretary of St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, welcomed and John Crasta, President of St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, thanked the gathering and team of Lions Club, Dahisar, Sarala Blood Bank. Dr Hemant Duggad, District Governor (District 323 – A3) of Lions Club also visited the camp and encouraged the blood donors. He appreciated the arrangement made by St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association.
