Mumbai: Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road® organized “Konkani Talent Competition” at Terrace Hall of St. Joseph’s Church, Mira Road on 9th August, 2015. The competition was conducted in different categories such as Fancy Dress, Elocution, Singing, Dance and Comical Skit.
The competition was held for the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church. Konkani writer, poet and critic Vally Quadras, singer Jerry Bondel, and actor and critic Francis Olivera were the judges. Fr Melwyn D’Cunha, OCD, Spiritual Director of the association and Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road inaugurated the competition with a prayer. The judges were welcomed with bouquets.
After the competition, the judges praised the participants and said that the level of the competition was much better than expected. Francis Olivera said that he had heard that Mira Road is known as mini Mangalore and after being a part of this event understood why it is called so. He said that the talent competition conducted by the association was really praiseworthy and praised the efforts of St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association for the betterment of Konkani by organising such talent competitions.
Jerry Bondel remembered the co-operation given by the Association for the ‘Jerry Nite’ organised by him at Mira Road. Vally Quadras congratulated all participants. Arun Noronha, Secretary of St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road offered vote of thanks. Prasann Niddodi compered the programme. President John Crasta, Secretary Arun Noronha, Cultural Secretary Hilary D’Silva and other members of the association were present on the occasion.
