Murder Accused Sentenced Death Penalty acquitted by High court

Kundapur: A man who was sentenced death penalty by the Kundapur additional district and sessions court for murdering a girl seven years ago was acquitted by the High court on Friday, October 13.

Satish Poojary, a resident of Hemmady, was found guilty by the Kundapur additional district and sessions court for murdering Akkayya alias Latha Poojary in June 2010. The Kundapur additional district and session’s court pronounced the death sentence in April 2016. Later he appealed to the High court.

Justice Ravi Malimath and Michael D’Cunha who led the two-member bench hearing the case said that there was a discrepancy between the prosecution’s evidence and the statements of the witnesses. Well-known advocate C V Nagesh represented on behalf of Satish Poojary into the High court.

Satish, a married man, owned a fancy goods shop in Hemmady. He reportedly had an illicit relationship with a young woman. When pressure mounted on him regarding his future plans about her, he is said to have found an easier way out by getting rid of her.

He was charged with murdering her in the Trasi beach and then keeping her body in his car parked in the middle of the town the whole day long. In the night, he took the body and dumped it at the Kulur cross near Noojadi.
