Murder of the River Netravati by State Government – Poojary

Mangaluru: “The state government is trying to murder River Netravati through the Yettinahole river diversion project. The Congress government is trying to make Mangaluru a desert”, said the senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary in a press meet held at the Press club here on October 22.

Addressing the mediapersons Poojary said, “The former chief ministers from Dakshina Kannada are advising the present Chief minister Siddaramaiah and misleading him to continue the Yettinahole Project. At present, the cost of the project is Rs 13,000 crores but it will soon double. The amount which the government is spending for the Yettinahole project is tax payers money which the government is wasting unnecessarily. The CM should understand the disadvantages of this project and drop it”.

He also said, “Because of the conspiracy of some people, and the government trying to change the project report, the cost will be doubled. From this Yettinahole Project, no one will benefit only money will be wasted and other problems will be created. There are various ways to provide water to Kolar, Bengaluru rural and Bengaluru city. We are not against the government to provide water to Kolar and Bengaluru but when the coastal district itself is facing scarcity of water, how can the government continue this project? Poojary questioned.

Poojary advised Siddaramaiah not to kill the Netravati river. If the CM has any knowledge, let they not change the project report. Many people hee in the district, ask evidence of drought in DK. If the CM listens to such people, he will be in trouble. Some of them say that it is possible to provide water to Kolar and Bengaluru rural and city from the Yettinahole project. He advised them not to give false hopes to the people. People in DK district are facing water crisis and they are agitating to save the river Netravati. Did the CM ever consult the expert Mayya or Vijay Kumar Shetty in this regard? There are a number of students who come to Dakshina Kannada district to pursue their education, Let they not suffer because of the scarcity of water in the District.

When asked about Talaq system, Poojary said, “Why do we need to discuss any religion? Who will support those women who filed the complaint in the Supreme court? Who will support them, will their men support? If the women do not like the Talaq system, let they also start to say Talaq, Talaq, Talaq to their husbands.

When asked about Ivan D’Souza, poojary said, “Ivan is a genius, I am not that intelligent, I salute him”.

Senior congress leader Vijay Kumar Shetty, former Deputy Mayor Purushotham Chitrapura, Arun Coelho and others were also present.
