Mururu Koraga Colony all set to welcome Minister H Anjaneya

Kundapur/Byndoor: The Mururu Koraga Colony of Kalthodu Grama Panchayat limits coming under the Bydoor Legislative constituency of Kundapur Taluk is all set to welcome Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya.

Minister H Anjaneya will be welcoming the New Year 2017, by staying at the Mururu Koraga Colony in Kalthodu Grama Panchayat limits under the Byndoor Legislative constituency in Udupi district.

Adorned with mavina torana ( a bunch of mango leaves tied to a thread) and pandals, the colony wore a festive look even as villagers were busy making preparations for the minister’s visit.

The local panchayat president Annappa Shetty and district officials were darting around monitoring the work to provide basic amenities. The Minister is likely to announce a special package for the welfare of the colony. He will stay in the house of Marli Koraga, where he will taste house made food.

The Minister will reach Udupi district on December 30 evening. He will lay the foundation stone for the SC fisheries department co-operative society building on December 31, thereafter he will inaugurate the Moraji Desai Hostel School at Heranjalu in Byndoor.

At 11:30 am the minister will reach Mururu Koraga Colony of Kalthodu Grama Panchayat and participate in various programmes including interaction meetings with SC/ST members. Later the minister will stay at Marli Koraga’s house overnight, listening to the grievances of the people and providing on the spot solutions.

Members of Marli Koraga’s house are eagerly waiting to welcome the Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya to their house. The house has three rooms including the hall. The middle room has been arranged for the minister. The ITDP department built a western toilet for the minister’s visit. The house members had planned to serve nonvegetarian food to the minister but minister Ajaneya will be taking purely vegetarian food during his overnight stay. Marli Koraga will be serving the home made vegetarian food to the minister.

Marli Koraga, a 65-year-old woman, is all happy and pleased to serve the minister home cooked dinner. She said she will serve the minister simple home cooked food comprising chapathi, sambar, bele saru, kucchallaki rice, soppina palya, tharakari palya and kadalebele payasa. A room in the middle of the house is unsoiled and cleaned for the minister’s stay overnight.

Marli stays with her three daughters and a son. She has seven children and she lost her husband some years ago.

People of the Koraga community will be presenting their traditional dance and music during the night. The minister will also be welcoming the New Year by cutting the cake at midnight.

Kalthodu village comes under Byndoor constituency, about 80 km from Udupi district headquarters. The Gram Panchayat has 5175 population, 10 families belong to the Koraga community are living in Morooru Koraga Colony. The people in the colony do not have basic amenities such as sanitation, road, transport facility, drinking water and power. They eke out a living by weaving baskets and daily wage work in the fields. There are over 11 children in the colony studying in the primary and higher levels.

People of the colony are in a hope that the minister’s visit will help in resolving their grievances.
