Music scene has become too competitive: Tochi Raina

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) Singer Tochi Raina, known for songs like “Iktara” and “Kabira”, says entering the music industry has become easier over time, but it has also become quite competitive.

“I feel the musicians now have a number of platforms to expose their talent. Earlier, getting into the industry was difficult comparatively. But now things have become easier.

“But as we say everything has its own pros and cons, the scenario has become too competitive for today’s youth. So they really need to work really hard,” Raina told IANS in an e-mail interview from Mumbai.

Raina has learnt music under the tutelage of Pandit Vinod Kumar, a disciple of Indian classical singer Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. He comes from a musical family, and promotes Sufi music worldwide. Raina, who is a member of Band of Bandagi, came to Mumbai in 2003.

Raina feels social media is a great platform for youngsters to showcase their talents.

“The right application (of social media) will surely help the industry find some good talent in the coming times,” he added.

Other than giving a platform to youngsters, Raina says “social media these days is the best form of connecting with your fans and friends”.

There are some projects that he is working on, and says he will update his “fans soon”.
