Muslim Brethren Spread the Joy of Ramadan Distributing Sweet Boxes among other religious people.

Mangaluru: In the view of serial blasts that took place in Sri Lanka, including Churches and hotels, City’s Muslim community members on 5 May had gathered at Milagres Church, Mangaluru to show their solidarity with Christians (Roman Catholics) who had perished in the bomb blasts at two Catholic churches in Colombo and Negombo-SriLanka on Easter Sunday. Prior to that on 28 April 2019, Team Mangalorean had published an article “Not All Muslims are Jihadists! In UAE a Mosque is Renamed as ‘ Mary, Mother of Jesus’?“, which sent a clear message that the world should not blame the whole Muslim community for a attack on Christians undertaken by a section of Muslim community, who call themselves Jihadists or Muslim extremists.

Just because a bunch of Jihadists are involving in terrorism and killing innocent people, that doesn’t mean that the whole Muslim community should be blamed and treated as terrorists. It is not right that every time a attack is carried out by Muslim militants, people see collective blame rear its head after an act of terror committed by a member of the Islamic faith. “Maybe most [Muslims are] peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible. There’s nothing logical about condemning millions of people — who are spread across the globe and are unrelated to each other except by religious tradition — for the actions of a few.

Ever since the attacks in Sri Lanka by Muslim Islamists, many Muslim organizations, leaders from Muslim countries have condemned the act, and have assured full support to the Sri Lanka government and Sri Lanka. And today, being Eid, in an effort to reach out to people on the occasion of this Feast, a group of like-minded people from the Muslim community were seen distributing over 1000 plus sweet boxes to non-Muslims in the City, after their feast ceremony at their respective mosques.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Mohammed S M from the group said, “On 5 May we had gathered at Milagres Church, Hampankatta-Mangaluru to show our solidarity to the Christians who were attacked by the terrorists in Sri Lanka, where we offered dates and water to the faithful after the Sunday Mass. While we were distributing water and dates, few Catholics asked us what we are going to do next. So exactly a month later, we have come up with this unique idea to spread the message of Eid among all non-Muslims. Therefore we have decided to distribute over 1000 sweet boxes as ‘Packets of Happiness’ to non-Muslims in the City. This morning we distributed sweets to the auto-rickshaw drivers, bus drivers, beggars, police personnel, and many other citizens, with an aim to reach out to all public and spread the true message of love and harmony of Eid from Muslim folks to non-Muslims”.

After the Eid prayers at the Mosque in the morning, nearly ten teams each comprising of 2-4 members with 100 sweet boxes went around the City on prominent streets, irrespective of caste or creed, thereby spreading the true meaning of Ramazan, of sharing and giving. Usually, Eid is celebrated by Muslims at their homes and mosques, which therefore sens a wrong message to the society that we are rigid and not interested in having a peaceful livelihood. This thought should vanish and therefore for that reason these small steps do matter. However, a feast has full meaning only if the society around you join in the celebration”.

Therefore while appreciating the kind gesture of the Muslim community in distributing sweet boxes among non-Muslims, wouldn’t it be nice that the everyone starts to “STOP” HATING, CRITICIZING & showing ANGER against Muslim Community just because of the disharmony, hatred and attacks created by a small group from that community. I hope that you all will agree with me on this subject! As they say ‘Better Late Than Never’, Team Mangalorean would like to wish our Muslim Brethren with a message, ” Wishing You all a blessed Ramadan that will inspire you with courage and strength that will help you to win every challenge of life. Happy Ramazan!”
