Muslim Central Committee Temporarily Postpones Jan 4th Protest – Masood
Mangaluru: The Muslim Central Committee DK and Udupi district postponed their programme which was scheduled on January 4, to bring awareness among the people about CAA, NRC and NPR. A huge convention was planned to be held at Nehru Maidan on January 4 but permission for the same was denied for various reasons by the police commissioner. We will wait until January 15 and later hold discussions with the MCC leaders to fix a new date”, said the president of the Muslim Central Committee K S Mohammed Masood in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on January 2.
Addressing the mediapersons Masood said, “We met the police commissioner to grant us permission to hold the convention at the Nehru Maidan but Dr Harsha said that the Home Minister has advised not to allow the programme to be held at the Nehru Maidan. He also gave reasons that massive Civil Work of the Smart City Project is going on and the road has been dug which poses a threat to public life and also creates traffic congestion. Dr Harsha advised us to find an alternate venue other than the Nehru Maidan. We are not in a hurry, We will hold the programme at Nehru Maidan because other leaders are not ready to hold the programme in another place”.
Masood further said, “When B S Yediyurappa visited Mangaluru, our delegation met him at the Circuit House. During the meeting, the CM had announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to Jalil and Nausheen’s families. But after 2 days the compensation was withdrawn saying that an FIR has been registered against both of them and that compensation will be given only after they are proved innocent. Being the CM, Yediyurappa should have thought well before announcing the compensation, he should have waited for the police report. Withdrawing the compensation that has been announced is a shame for the CM, we condemn such decision”.
Masood also said, “The convention will be held at the Nehru Maidan and no one can stop it. We have requested the police commissioner to hold the convention peacefully but he has not given us the permission. The Home minister has asked us to wait for 10 more days. We respect the police commissioner and will wait for 15 days after which we will take the decision. The police commissioner has asked us to submit a bond of Rs 2 crore as security to hold the convention anywhere in Mangaluru. He has also asked all the 28 organizations to sign the bond and give in writing on their letter head. We will submit the bond of Rs 2 crore to hold the convention”.
Muslim Central Committee leaders Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi, M S Rasheed, Kashim H K, Ibrahim Kodijal and Mansoor Ahmed Azad were also present.
