‘My wedding with Rahul Gandhi is propaganda in wake of Karnataka election’: Congress MLA Aditi Singh
Lucknow: Annoyed over rumours of her wedding with Congress president Rahul Gandhi, MLA from Rae Bareli Aditi Singh expressed anger over the link up on Sunday.
“I am really saddened by the way such baseless rumours are being spread. Rahul ji is like an elder brother to me. I ritualistically tie rakhi on his hands. Those behind the link up are absolutely wrong and aimed to malign my image and that of Rahul Gandhi ji,” she told TOI hours after she expressed anger on twitter.
Aditi also warned those behind the rumour stating, “afwaah failane wale baaz ayen (those behind the rumour must mind themselves).” In another tweet, Aditi clarified that the pictures used to support the baseless rumours were taken during Sonia Gandhi’s recent visit to Rae Bareli. She added that her family knew the Gandhis for decades and the pictures were of the recent meetings.
Daughter of five-time MLA from Rae Bareli Sadar seat, Aditi made her debut in politics in 2017 on a Congress ticket. Her father had quit the party long back. It is believed that Aditi was handpicked by Congress leadership for the Rae Bareli sadar seat. She is said to be close to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. A management graduate from Duke University in US, Aditi recorded a thumping victory in 2017. She defeated her nearest contender with over 90,000 votes (which is a huge killing in case of state elections) to retain her father’s legacy.
Sources said that Aditi’s rise in the party triggered resentment in Panchvati, the house of Congress MLC Dinesh Singh and his brothers. Her increasing importance is said to be the reason for Dinesh Singh’s departure from Congress to BJP on April 21. On Friday, Congress has moved to the vidhan parishad for disqualification of Dinesh Singh’s membership.
On who could be behind the rumours and what could be their intention, Aditi said, “My wedding with Rahul Gandhi is propaganda in wake of the Karnataka elections. the intention appears to distract Congress leadership and workers who are toiling in Karnataka. And it is anyone’s guess on who could be behind it.”
Photographs showing Rahul Gandhi with Aditi Singh and their families with captions such as ‘ Rahul Gandhi has finally found a match’ were doing rounds on social media including WhatsApp on Saturday. The pictures evoked all sorts of reactions, eventually causing embarrassment to the 29-year-old MLA from Rae Bareli.
Reacting to the rumours on Sunday morning, Aditi tweeted that she was very upset over the rumours of her wedding with Rahul Gandhi. “Rahul Gandhi ji mere rakhi wale bhai hai. yeh afwah matra hai (Rahul Gandhi ji is like an elder brother to me. I tie rakhi to him. this is a mere rumour),” she tweeted.
