MYS and G Shanker Trust celebrate the collection of 1 lakh units of blood

Udupi: The G Shanker Family Trust Ambalpadi, Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane(MYS) and other associations celebrated the collection of 1 lakh units of blood at the Shamili Shanaya Auditorium Brahmavar on June 14.

The programme began with an invocation. Former president of Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane for Udupi district Ganesh Kanchan welcomed the gathering. Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his inaugural message, Raghupathi Bhat said that the Shankar Family Trust and the Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane have made a unique achievement by collecting one lakh units of blood in the country. “We can call it a great revolution in the country. The requirement of blood is increasing day by day in the country. Based on the demand, the supply of blood is still short. There is no alternative to blood. The demand for blood can be achieved only through the blood donors. By collecting one lakh units of blood, these two organizations have saved about 50,000 lives. The district administration should cooperate with private organizations in organizing blood donation camps,” he said.

Dr G Shanker, Chairman of the Trust, expressed his displeasure with the district administration and said that over 10 lakh units of blood have been collected by his organization in association with the Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane during the last 10 years. “25% of the blood that is collected will be donated to the district hospital, but the district administration is not cooperating well,” he added.

Manipal University Chancellor Narayana Sabhahit presided over the function. Brahmavar Tahsildar Bharathi, Dr Avinash Shetty (Medical Superintendent of KMC Hospital, Manipal), Jayakar Shetty Kundapur (Udupi Red Cross President), Mogaveera Youth Organization District President Vinaya Karkera, businessman Ananda Kunder, Fisheries Federation president Yashpala Suvarna, organizer Yatish Baikampady and others were present.
