Mysuru celebrates ‘royal heir’s’ arrival

Mysuru, (DHNS): The people of Mysuru region, especially in Mysuru city and surroundings, are rejoicing the birth of a baby boy to Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Trishika Devi couple of the erstwhile royal family, on Thursday night.

Wadiyar has thanked the people for their wishes and support on his Facebook page. “With the blessings of Chamundeshwari Devi, I am extremely pleased to announce that we have been blessed with a baby boy. I would like to thank everyone for their wishes and support on this joyous occasion,” states his post.

Mahesh Raje Urs, director of Arasu Mandali Sangha, said, the love and admiration for the erstwhile royal family is due to the contributions of the Wadiyars for the development of Karnataka, including the capital of Bengaluru.

“The term Mysuru is nowadays restricted to Mysuru city. However, Mysuru of the Wadiyars is almost half of Karnataka. Since 1799, the present districts of Davangere, Chitradurga, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, and Kolar were under the care of the Wadiyars. Earlier, even parts of Hyderabad Karnataka, Mumbai Karnataka, coastal Karnataka and even parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh were part of the Mysuru state. Due to caste considerations, Wadiyars are not given the credit for the development of Bengaluru,” said Urs.

M G Yashwanth Kumar, the treasurer of Namma Mysuru Foundation, said it is decades since we adopted democracy, but, still people have the belief that ‘the king is a living God’ (raja prathyaksha devatha). “I know that there is no monarchy now. But as a common citizen of this land, as a descendant of a citizen of Mysuru kingdom, I rejoice the birth of a descendent of the maharajas. I wish the new member of the Yadu dynasty grows into a patriotic and successful citizen of this nation,” he said.

T S Ravishankar, former president of Mysuru city (district) Congress committee, said, “Even though there is no monarchy, the baby is the Yuvaraja in the hearts of the people. His birth will definitely bring cheers among the people”.

Jayalakshmi Prashanth, a resident of Gangothri Layout, said, all said and done, it is the arrival of the ‘Chikka Maharaja’.
