Mysuru: After a non-stop schedule of administrative work, tour programmes and official events for months and months, chief minister Siddaramanahundi Siddaramaiah took a long-needed break on Sunday, Jan 11.

He visited his native village of Siddaramanahundi, accompanied by wife Parvatamma and sons Rakesh and Dr Yatindra. He appeared to be in a leisurely mood.

Sitting in the veranda of the family home, he spent a lot of time chatting with his childhood friends. Many old-timers came to meet him and he spoke to them individually, reminiscing over the good old days.

The CM also gave a patient hearing to those who came with appeals for help and improvements in the village. What drew everyone’s attention was that he, with family members, offered a special puja at the shrine of Shri Siddarameshwara, his home deity.

He, in the meantime, had a look at the progress of work at his new house which is being constructed.

Sources close to him said that although he does not make his religious observance obvious, the puja was offered at the insistence of his son, in thanksgiving for the narrow escape he had while taking off in a helicopter from HAL airport in Bengaluru on his way to Mysuru two days ago.

The CM makes it a point to keep his family away from limelight. While most politicians’ children make their presence felt in every way possible, the very fact that most people of the state are not even aware of the names of his wife and sons stands witness to his policy of non-interference by his kin, said sources close to his family.

In keeping with his policy, he refused to be photographed with his family and kept the media away during the visit to the shrine of the deity. The security sources said that the visit to the deity was not on his schedule was decided upon at the last moment. His visit to Hassan too was called off after the helicopter incident upset the schedule as he had to travel by road to Mysuru.
