Naga Students’ Forum, Mangaluru, holds freshers meet

Mangaluru: The Naga Students’ Forum Mangaluru (NSFM) held its freshers meet at Summer Sands Resort, Ullal.

Addressing the meet, Kevin Mendonsa, education correspondent with the Times of India, urged students of North-Eastern states to dispel myths about the North-East while pursuing their education.

“Your responsibility is to not only get education but also to educate people about the rest of N-E states,” said Kevin. “Educate people that you don’t stay in houses made of bamboos, are not backward, don’t live on trees, don’t wear leaves as dress, and all of you don’t just eat dog meat, beef or wild animals. You should tell them that one doesn’t need a visa to travel to the N-E states, that you are are not foreigners. You should tell that you are humans like the rest of us.”

He encouraged students to go beyond academics and try to be entrepreneurs and crack competitive exams.

In her welcome address, Kaini Cecilia asked students to come out of their comfort zones and swim against the tide to achieve their goals and dreams.

Kaini also added that Mangaluru was kind to people of N-E people and always welcomed them.

Chobo Rose Kin and Rozüo Romanus were adjudged Miss and Mr Fresher respectively during the programme, which was attended by 58 students. Besü Daikho spoke on behalf of the freshers.
