Nalin did not take any Initiative to Save Vijay Bank from Amalgamation- Mahabala Marla
Mangaluru: “Two days ago MP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel had given a statement to the media saying that the UPA government, Veerappa Moily and Chidambaram are responsible for the amalgamation of Vijaya Bank which is far from the truth. In 1991, the Narasimham Committee had taken measures to strengthen the banking system and recommendations were made, but the committee had not identified any particular bank. In order to save the banks which were running on loss, the Narasimham committee had taken measures to merge them with the banks running on profit”, said former mayor Mahabala Marla in a press meet held at the Congress Election office, Bendurwell here on April 3.
Addressing the mediapersons Mahabala Marla said, “From the past three years the Dena Bank was running under loss. The Dena bank was also included in the ‘A’ blacklist after it was involved in a business scam in South Africa. In 2018, the RBI instructed the Dena Bank not to take any deposit. After this development, when the bank was about to shut down, the defense minister, railway minister and finance minister’s expert committee suggested the merger of the Bank of Baroda and Dena Bank with Vijaya Bank. On 2 January 2019, at 3:00 pm, the board meeting was held and immediately at 4:00 pm the cabinet meeting was called and the permission was granted. At 6:15 pm, the notification was issued and within 5 hours three banks were merged. The merger of three banks was to safeguard the banks that were running on loss. To save some businessmen, our Vijaya Bank was victimized. The NDA government has not appointed any board of directors from the past three years to avoid any information leaking to the public. Only after the merger, we all came to know about this game. MP Nalin approached the finance minister only after the merger of the bank.”
Mahabala Marla further said, “Being our MP, he did not take any initiative to stop the merger. If he was unable to stop the merger he would have brought the matter to the notice of the people of the district. But to please his leaders and to safeguard his seat he maintained silence during all the developments in regard to the bank. Now, he is putting allegations on the UPA government, Veerappa Moily and Chidambaram. Instead of blaming the UPA government for his mistakes, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel should tell the truth to the people. The merger of Vijaya bank is an insult to those who had strived hard for the grow the bank. In the coming elections, people will give a befitting reply to Nalin Kamur Kateel.”
Mahabala Marla also said, “When the processes of the merger of Vijaya Bank was going on Nalin Kumar did not take the merger issue seriously, nor did he inform others about it. We all know that the MP alone cannot stop the merger but he would have called a public meeting to address the issue. His duty was to inform the opposition parties about the merger of Vijaya Bank and form a committee to fight against it. To retain his MP seat and to please the high command Nalin Kumar maintained silence. In this election, the people of this district will give him a befitting reply for fooling the people in the Vijaya Bank merger issue.”
Congress leaders Suresh Ballal, Stany Alvares, T K Sudheer and others were also present.
