Nanthur Junction a Deathtrap, Need Flyover to stop Accidents – JD(S)
Mangaluru: The JD(S) Youth Wing staged a protest demanding the central government to construct a flyover to avoid further accidents at the Nanthur Junction here on December 9.
The protesters marched towards the Nanthur junction shouting slogans against the National Highway Authority. One minute silence was observed for Kavitha’s soul who had lost her life in an accident at the Nanthur Junction on November 7.
Addressing the protesters JD(S) Youth president Akshith Suvarna said, “Nanthur circle is called as a Death spot. A number of accidents have taken place in this spot and many innocent lives have been lost, but the elected representatives are not bothered to construct a flyover here. It is the duty of the central government to construct flyovers on the national highway. The elected Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel is not bothered to insist the central government to construct a flyover. MP Nalin has time to deliver speeches and say that he will set the district on fire but he has no time to solve the problems faced by the people at the Nanthur Junction.”
Akshith further said, “Our elected members MP’s, MLA’s, Ministers and MCC officials pass through this road every day but they fail to address the problems at the Nanthur junction. The roads in Mangaluru city should be repaired and made motorable but our elected representatives are not showing any interest. If the flyover will not be constructed at the Nanthur Junction the JD(S) will intensify their protest in the coming days,” he warned.
JD(S) president for Mangaluru South Vasantha Poojary, speaking on the occasion said, “On November 7, a woman named Kavitha died when a bus she was travelling was involved in an accident at the Nanthur Junction. The negligence of the NHAI is the cause of her death. The central government should provide compensation to Kavitha’s family. A number of accidents have taken place at the Nanthur Junction and many have lost their lives due to the unscientific planning of the road. We demand the NHAI to construct a flyover to avoid further accidents. The elected representative MP Nalin Kumar should meet the Central leaders and insist them to construct the flyover as soon as possible. If the flyover will not be constructed we will intensify our protest in the coming days by holding a hunger strike.”
Later the protesters blocked the road for some time. JD(S) leaders Ram Ganesh, Gopalkrishna, Ratnakar Suvarna, Nasir, Prateesh, Srinath Rai, Tejas,. Nikith Raj, Sinan and others were also present.
Why don’t you guys also protest over the corrupt RTO office who sell driving licence to these uncouth guys? Did you see how the bus guy entered the round about even after seeing the container truck coming to his left?
