Narendra Modi Failed to Ban Meat Export – Dayanand Swamiji

Udupi: Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government, Animal rights activist and president of the World Animal Welfare Board Dayanand Swamiji on Tuesday, November 28, said that those who spoke about the “Cow slaughter bill” should ban all types of meat exports. He was speaking at a press meet held at the press club.

Addressing the mediapersons Dayanand Swamiji said, “When Narendra Modi was appointed as the prime minister of India we all hoped that he would ban the meat export, but he has failed to fulfill his pre-poll assurances. Modi has taken many measures to preserve the Indian Culture but has not shown any interest to ban the meat export which has pained us a lot”.

The government of India should bring a legislation to completely ban the meat export which the Muslims and other communities also support, he added.

Condemning the animal sacrifice every year where lakhs of animals are sacrificed at the temple fairs across India, Swamiji said that people should stop animal sacrifices which is against all religious tenets. Animals are sacrificed in the name of God in many temples, he added.

“Our fight will go on until India is free of animal sacrifice”, said Swamiji and also called on the public not to sacrifice animals for any reasons.

Criticising the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah for withdrawing the ‘Karnataka Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act 1964’. A Bill passed by both the houses of the legislature during BJP rule had widened the definition of cattle, made punishment harsher and increased the age of animal to be slaughtered but it did not receive the Presidential assent. As per the amended Bill brought in during the BJP rule, the slaughter of cows, calf of a cow and bull, bullock, buffalo male or female and calf of she-buffalo was prohibited. When Siddaramaiah became the chief minister he withdrew the bill in Karnataka which is condemnable.

We are not protesting against any religion or party. We are only concerned about saving animals in India, he added.

India exports all sorts of foodstuff inspite of food shortages and spiralling prices in India, and insane taxes under the guise of GST especially to the Gulf Countries, Russia and USA Export brings in good income to the Government to pay more salaries to all those members in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, whether active and useful or not! Check out the number of Bollywood filmstars and sports personalities gaining from the government in being inducted as a member, that one can certainly never understand. Thus banning of meat or other foodstuff is certainly not in favour against income… Read more »
