National Service Scheme at Yenepoya Pharmacy, Nursing & Physiotherapy College

Mangaluru: In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the National Service Scheme (NSS) at Yenepoya Pharmacy, Nursing & Physiotherapy College hosted a comprehensive “Breast Cancer Awareness Talk” at the seminar hall of Yenepoya Pharmacy College. The event took place on the Kinya campus, gathering approximately 50 female non-teaching staff members from various constituent colleges of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).

Dr. Malavika Sachith, Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Yenepoya Medical College & Hospital, led the awareness session. Her insightful presentation focused on educating the attendees about critical aspects of breast cancer, including the importance of early detection, which can significantly affect treatment outcomes. Dr. Sachith meticulously addressed common myths surrounding the disease and provided valuable information on recent therapeutic advancements.

A key component of the talk was the demonstration of self-breast examination techniques, empowering participants with the knowledge to monitor their health proactively. Through this initiative, the NSS aimed to inspire all participants to adopt preventive measures in the fight for a cancer-free society.

The session commenced with a welcome address delivered by Ms. Navya, NSS Programme Officer at Yenepoya Nursing College, who emphasized the significance of awareness and education in combating breast cancer. The proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Shifali, NSS Programme Officer at the Physiotherapy College. Mrs. Alima Misiriya, Assistant Professor and NSS member, presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Sachith for her invaluable contribution. The event was coordinated by Mr. Mohammed Asif, NSS Programme Officer and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Yenepoya Pharmacy College, alongside other faculty members who supported the initiative.

This collaboration underscores Yenepoya University’s commitment to public health education, particularly in raising awareness about crucial health issues such as breast cancer.
