National Workshop on Disaster Health in Karnataka
CHD Group and its partners UNICEF, National Health Mission – Government of Karnataka, District Disaster Management Authority – Dakshina Kannada, Milagres College and Shanti Sandesha Trust will be conducting a 2-day Medical Officers training workshop from 27th onwards till 28th November 2017. The workshop is aimed at capacity building health professionals to be disaster trained and ready to be deployed in case of any natural and man-made disasters. The workshop will be attended by selected doctors across all the 30 districts of Karnataka and few doctors across the country. This will be the beginning of many such workshop series to build a disaster resilient nation by CHD Group and its affiliated partners.
Dr Edmond Fernandes, CEO, CHD Group will be the key trainer for the 2 days of the workshop and other invited speakers will be Dr Joylene Almeida, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and specialist in High-risk pregnancy and adolescent gynecology and Dr Celian, Global Public Health expert from Bangalore.
Natural disasters affect life and livelihood and it affects women, children and elderly the most, which become a vulnerable group and are target to abuse, violence and trafficking. Issues that will be covered will range from water, sanitation and hygiene, to rapid assessment and disease control measures, to global policy frameworks and the manner in which it must translate to local action, dead body management and health system strengthening in disaster risk reduction approaches.
CHD Group is a public health organisation working with governments, academia, UN agencies, Corporate and faith-based coalitions to further the public health agenda and build risk reduction approaches across the state and country.
