Mangaluru : In a freak and tragic accident a Truck Driver Vinod Poojary, aged 58, employed with Delta Infra Logistics, a shipping contractor for New Mangalore Port Trust, lost his life on Wednesday night 6 November 2019, at around 9.30 pm.

Narrating the incident to Team Mangalorean, Satish Poojary, the President of The All India Centre of Trade Unions, Mangaluru Chapter said, ” Vinod Poojary who was truck driver with Delta Infra Logistics, hauling containers to be shipped elsewhere, was doing his duty on Wednesday, 6 November 2019. While he was making a U-turn, the container which was not hooked in tact in the groove, came loose, and landed into the driver’s cabin, which hit Vinod, resulting in his death on the spot “

He further said, “This is due to the total negligence of NMPT, Safety Officers and Management of Delta, which led to loss of a life. There have been couple of accidents in the past, due to negligence of safety standards, and even after the Workers Union have urged the NMPT to follow thorough safety standards, they have turned a blind eye to our requests. Containers are loaded on to to the truck in a hurry, without following proper safety procedures, and today, we saw yet another result which led to a death.
