New Arrivals of Dholes, Painted Stork and Alexandrine Parakeet to Pilikula
Mangaluru: More and more animals are being added to the population at Pilikula Biological Park and the Pilikula Zoo is getting more and more popularity with the arrival of new animals.
In the recent exchange programme, the Pilikula Zoo received four Dholes, five Painted Stork, and five Alexandrine Parakeet from Visakhapatnam Zoo, Andhra Pradesh on December 16.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Director of Pilikula Biological Park H Jayaprakash Bhandary said, “We have received four Dholes, five Painted Stork, and five Alexandrine Parakeet from the Visakhapatnam Zoo, Andhra Pradesh. Dholes are also called Wild Dogs or Chennenai in local Tulu language. Once they were commonly seen in the Western and Eastern Ghats. Now their numbers have dwindled and they are listed under the endangered animal category”.
Jayaprakash further said, “Pilikula Biological Park has spared two male Tigers, four Red Jungle Fowl and one Marsh Crocodile which are surplus in Pilikula Biological Park. Dholes are kept in quarantine and will be released to the display enclosure next week”.
