Mangalore: The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) celebrated a significant milestone today with the arrival of the MS SILVER WHISPER, the first cruise vessel of the season, at Berth No. 4. The luxury Bahamian-flagged ship, which embarked from Mumbai, carried a total of 299 passengers and 296 crew members, marking the commencement of an exciting cruise season.

In a ceremonial event underscoring the region’s renowned hospitality, Shri Mullai Muhilan M.P. IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District, presented a commemorative plaque to the ship’s captain. This gesture was emblematic of the warm welcome extended to visitors. The occasion was further graced by the presence of Smt. S. Shanthi, Deputy Chairperson of the NMPA, along with other distinguished guests. In return, the ship’s master presented a souvenir to the Deputy Commissioner, highlighting the mutual appreciation between the port authority and the cruise line.

The MS SILVER WHISPER, a distinguished member of the Silver Cruises fleet, measures 186 meters in length, has a draft of 6.20 meters, and boasts a gross tonnage of 28,258. The vessel is on an international itinerary that includes stops at notable destinations such as Cape Town, Mumbai, New Mangalore, and Colombo, promising travelers a unique and enriching voyage experience.

Upon disembarking, passengers were treated to a traditional Indian welcome, complete with a captivating Bharatanatyam performance that showcased the rich cultural heritage of India. This warm reception set the tone for an engaging exploration of Dakshina Kannada’s cultural treasures.

Passengers had the opportunity to visit several iconic sites, including the Thousand Pillar Temple in Moodbidri, the Kadri Manjunatha Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, and the Artisan Village in Pilikula, allowing them to immerse themselves in the local culture and history.

The NMPA ensured a seamless experience for all passengers, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that included 14 immigration counters, two customs counters, and medical screening facilities. Additional amenities such as diverse transportation options, a Ministry of AYUSH meditation center, and a selfie stand featuring “Yakshagana” by the Ministry of Tourism further enhanced the passenger experience.

The arrival of MS SILVER WHISPER marks the beginning of a vibrant cruise season for the New Mangalore Port Authority, reaffirming its growing reputation as a premier cruise destination in India. As the port continues to attract international vessels, it stands poised to offer travelers an unforgettable experience in the heart of Karnataka’s coastal beauty.
