NH officials to be booked in Parkala Child Death Case if found Guilty – SP Dr Sanjeev Patil

Udupi: If the highway officials are found guilty in the death of the child in the Malpe-Teerthalli National Highway they will also be booked under the law said District Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil. He was answering to a caller during the phone in programme held at the District Police Office here on October 7. The highway officials have been summoned twice and they have appeared for the enquiry. The enquiry is headed by Malpe PSI.

Another caller said that cigarette smoking was evident on a college campus, SP said that effective action will be taken.

A caller said that the patient’s relatives have assaulted a duty staff in the government hospital during the night, SP said that if the local station is contacted about the incident, the police will take action. SP also said that action will also be initiated according to the Supreme Court guidelines in the assault of doctors or hospital staff on duty.

Contractors should have adequate information of the labourers hired from other districts or states. He also said that if information on illegal immigrants from Bangladesh is given, effective action will be taken.

Another caller said that the usage of shrill horns is causing sound pollution and inconvenience to the citizens, SP said that the drive has been intensified to check on shrill horns in the city he also said that 836 cases are registered in this regard.


SP answering on the gambling cases in the district said that 278 cases are registered and the those involved in gambling are booked under the law.

SP answering on the parking problems in the city said that the Traffic Police are directed to survey the traffic movement in the city.

Another caller said that some persons were eve-teasing women near the Police quarters, for which SP said that action will be initiated at the earliest.

SP received 28 calls on parking problems, gambling, illegal liquor sale, illegal sand mining etc. 11 persons are arrested in 3 gambling cases, 1 person has been arrested in Matka case, 3 persons in drugs case, 35 cases of traffic violations, 1097 cases of riding motor vehicles without helmet and 71 cases of rash driving.

Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake chaired a meeting with the people and officials on NH 66 recently, people have expressed their concern in the meeting, Sorake has given 15 days time to solve the problems.

The weeds grown on NH 66 are to be cleared in 15 days, 27 foot over bridges to be constructed in densely populated areas, schools and bus stands. The police department has submitted a proposal for 27 foot over bridges to the Ministry of Highways. The officials are also directed to set up street lights and also to clear waterlogging. Concerned officials are directed to fence the highway and also to ease pedestrian movements. The solar blinkers are to be installed. There is no provision to not charge vehicles kept waiting for more than three minutes. There should not be a traffic jam on the highway due to the toll plaza. If the contractors fail to comply with the conditions the toll plaza will be closed down. The pending work from Kundapur to Padubidri has to be completed by December 30.

The review meeting will be held during the end of October with the regional manager of the national highway, Y V Prasad to check on the compliance of the directions issued. If people die due to accidents on NH 66, the National Highway Officials will be held accountable, he added.
