NHAI Officer Visits Santhekatte, Assures Swift Resolution to Dust Pollution Issue
Udupi: In an effort to address the ongoing dust pollution problem affecting residents and commuters in Santhekatte, Udupi – Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary announced that Vilas Brahmankar, the regional officer of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), has provided assurances that remedial measures will be implemented within a week. This commitment was made public during a recent site inspection of the national highway in Santhekatte.
During the inspection, Poojary communicated to reporters that the issue of excessive dust, originating from the unpaved sections along the highway, has been a significant concern for the local populace. He highlighted discussions with Brahmankar, wherein he emphasized the urgent need for prompt completion of asphalt work along both sides of the highway. “I brought this critical issue to the attention of the NHAI, and I am pleased to report that the regional officer has assured us of rapid progress,” stated Poojary.
Brahmankar, during the inspection, confirmed the timeline for the necessary interventions. He noted that the asphalt application on one side of the national highway is scheduled to be completed by April 15, with full completion of all work anticipated by June or July of this year. This phased approach is intended not only to mitigate the current dust problem but also to enhance overall road conditions for the safety and convenience of drivers and pedestrians alike.
In addressing the long-term solution, Brahmankar elaborated on plans for the comprehensive concreting of the entire stretch of road at Santhekatte. “This initiative is aimed at significantly reducing dust pollution in the area,” he explained. The scheduled work will unfold in two distinct phases, with the first phase projected to conclude by mid-April.
Furthermore, Poojary took the opportunity to review additional work on the national highway at nearby locations, specifically Ambalapadi and Uchila. He reported that operations at Ambalapadi are progressing as per expectations, while he anticipates that work at Uchila will be wrapped up shortly.
In light of recent accidents that have occurred at Uchila, Poojary expressed his concerns to the NHAI regarding the safety of motorists in that area. He affirmed that the authority has promised to undertake measures to enhance safety protocols. Brahmankar elaborated on these measures, revealing plans for the construction of a ramp at Uchila designed to reduce the risk of accidents on this stretch of road.
The site inspection was attended by a notable contingent of officials, including the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner, indicating the seriousness with which local administration is treating these infrastructural improvements.
In conclusion, the proactive measures discussed during this inspection underscore the NHAI’s commitment to both improving road safety and addressing environmental concerns related to dust pollution. With timely intervention expected within the week, the residents of Santhekatte can anticipate a significant improvement in their daily conditions and enhanced safety on the national highway.
