Nityananda Volakadu’s Unique ‘Urulu Seve’ Protest Demanding Repair of Malpe-Teerthalli NH

Udupi: The potholes in Malpe-Teerthalli road in Manipal cause severe inconvenience to the commuters and patients who travel to Manipal, while the action taken by the authorities to repair the road seems to be in vain. Social activist Nithyananda Volakadu who had protested by swimming in the potholes also protested today in a similar manner by crawling (Urulu Seve) on the damaged road.

A patient in a stretcher was portrayed as part of the protest. Nithyananda Volakadu also crawled on the road. He was supported by auto rickshaw drivers who shouted slogans against the authorities demanding the repair of the damaged road.

Later speaking to media persons Nithyananda Volakadu said that earlier a similar protest was held urging the authorities to repair the road. The authorities later repaired the damaged road. The dusty road has been now has been causing severe inconvenience and health issues to the people. Even though the MP and Ministers move on the same road they have turned a blind eye to the condition of the road. Manipal is known as an international hub and people have been appealing to repair the damaged road. The authorities are coming up with temporary repairs. Students of different states and countries come to Manipal to pursue their education. Manipal is also known as a health hub. People from all over the world come for treatment to Manipal. The dust on the road has caused breathing problems to many people. Authorities should soon address the issue, he added.
