NMPT Conducts Oil Spill Mock Drill at SPM

Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Trust along with MRPL successfully conducted a Oil Spill Mock Drill recently at the SPM (Single Point Mooring) in association with all the stake-holders. 500 mtrs of inflatable booms laid out encircling the SPM. Disk type skimmer was also tried out which is normally used to skim the oil from water. Representatives from NMPT, MRPL, District Disaster Management, Coast Guard and IOCL left NMPT harbour at 0700 hrs by tug Bhuvana and returned in the afternoon after conducting the drill. Scenario for the drill was Pipeline leakage from SPM.

Single point mooring (SPM) is a floating buoy for handling of crude oil from very large tankers located at a distance of 17 Kms away from the berths for import of crude oil for MRPL.

NMPT & MRPL are now fully prepared to meet eventualities like oil pollution within NMPT waters.
