No Compensation from Chief Minister Yediyurappa No Problem! But Good Samaritans and various other organizations have Contributed over Rs 2 Cr for Shooting Victims Nauseen and Jaleel, who were shot by the cops during the recent violence in Mangaluru, as part of protest against CAA and NRC.
Mangaluru: The chief minister of Karnataka Yediyurappa coming to Mangaluru and offering Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the two victims shot mercilessly by the cops during the recent violence, is nothing but a Nataka/Drama. And few days after promising to give the said compensation to the families, CM changes his mind and holds back in distributing the said amount of compensation to the two victims’families, until proper investigations are completed. Bah humbug!
But two weeks after the violence that killed two people and resulted in several others sustaining injuries during anti CAA/NRC protests in Mangaluru, associations and individuals have collected more than Rs 2 crore to help the victims’ families. Highly placed sources from the police department reveal that funds were collected through various channels like bank transfers and others, to give compensation to the victims’ families a few days after the violence. It is learnt that the collection of funds increased after chief minister B S Yediyurappa withdrew ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each from the the victims’ families. In the December 19 violence, Nausheen Bengre 49, and Jaleel Kudroli, 23, were killed in police firing.
Apart from these two death, reports indicate that over a dozen people were injured in the violence, and some of them are still recuperating in the hospital. As per police sources, more than Rs 2 crore has been collected to help victims, and the people who have taken the lead in making the donations have decided that out of total amount collected, Rs 25 lakh each will go to Nauseen and Jaleel’s families and the rest will be distributed among the injured. But it is yet to be decided when the funds will be distributed to the kith and kin of the two victims.
Another source said the victims families, whose breadwinners were killed, had raised objections when fund raising associations decided to hand over money to injured victims. However, they were convinced about the same after intervention of community leaders. So far, two families, whose members have been killed, were given compensation by former chief ministers H D Kumaraswamy and Siddaramaiah.
Apart from this, few days ago, a Trinamool Congress delegation from West Bengal announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families, when the delegation had met the victims family members. In the meantime, it is learnt that former MLA B A Mohiuddeen Bava, who is also one among many actively involved in collection of funds, refused to divulge of total amount collected and who had said: “It is not the right time to reveal about the total amount of funds collected. Even if we do, there is uncertainty that more funds will not come in. We are trying to help the shooting victims’ families and the injured, who are facing financial difficulties due to the recent violence.”
