No Modi Wave in DK, BJP is Business Janara Party – Madhu Bangarappa
Mangaluru: “The Dakshina Kannada district needs a change. The people are thinking of a change. They say that the Karavali belt is lost to the BJP and that there is only support for Narendra Modi here. But I don’t think that there is any Modi wave. I believe that the general public in DK will support the Congress-JDS coalition candidate based on what they have seen in the past nine months,” said Coalition candidate for Shivamogga district Madhu Bangarappa in a press meet held at the Congress Election Office, Bendorewell here on April 6.
Addressing the mediapersons, Madhu Bangarappa said, “My father had a strong connection with this district. When he was the Chief Minister, he had support from the Billava leaders like Janardhan Poojary and Vinay Kumar Sorake. But the BJP has only used the Billava community for their own political gains. The former DCM Ashok R has called Mithun Rai a ‘Gunda’. Instead of calling each other names, they should focus on bringing prosperity to the district. BJP always claim to be a Hindu party but they want to divide the Hindu community itself. I believe that the BJP should be eradicated from the coastal belt”.
Madhu Bangarappa was also accompanied by Congress MLA Nalapad Harris. Addressing the mediapersons Nalapad Harris said, “I request the youth to think and vote. The Central Government had said that they would give jobs to 2 crore people. In five years they would have created 10 crore jobs but at present, 10 crore people are jobless. The youth have to think about how their future has been lost in the past five years. In our Manifesto, we have focused on job creation by permitting startups to operate without taxes for three years. What has the BJP done? They’ve only changed the names of streets in the last five years.”
In a press meet held on April 5, BJP spokesperson Jitendra Kottari alleged that the UPA government had given the four-lane Mangaluru – Goa road contract to Navyug to get kickbacks. When questioned about this allegation, Nalapad Harris said, “The BJP Government has been in power for five years. If we had got kickbacks from the contract, they could have launched an investigation.”
In his statement to the press, Madhu Bangarappa had said that the average age of JDS-Congress candidates was on the young side. When confronted with the fact that the BJP had the youngest candidate in all of India, he said “One candidate will not change anything. At the end of the day, a candidate must be qualified. Young people should be encouraged but we must not forget our seniors who are experienced.”
Congress Spokesperson A C Vinayraj, District president of JD(S) Mohammed Kunhi, T K Sudhir, District Youth JD(S)President Akshith Suvarna and Suresh Ballal were also present.
Later Madhu Bangarappa along with the JD(S) and Congress leaders, campaigned for Mithun Rai in Bendurwell area.
