The state president of SSF Shafi Saadi Bengaluru inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, Shafi said, “When there is Triple Talaq or any other issues related to the Sharia, there are Ulemas to talk about it and people should understand it. Today the Uniform Civil Code and Triple Talaq has become a major issue for discussion. The media is exaggerating on the Triple Talaq issue instead of highlighting other issues like poverty etc which need immediate attention in the country”.

He further said, “If Shayara Banu claims that she had multiple abortions and she is the victim of Triple Talaq, there are 9 crore women in India who will say that they are not affected by Triple Talaq. If Prime minister Modi is really concerned about the Muslim women, we should release the list of women who are the victims and give them justice. In the Dadri incident, Mohammad Akhlaq was killed for allegedly consuming beef. Now let Modi give justice to Akhlaq’s wife and daughters who are the victims. During the Gujarat riots a young nine-month-old pregnant woman Kausar Bano’s stomach was slit open, the foetus pulled out, and she was set on fire. Let Modi give justice to her husband. In Jharkhand, two Muslim men were hanged to a tree while they were taking the cattle to the local market. Give justice to the woman who lost her husband and son. There are many women who are the victims of atrocities, rape and violence, instead of providing safety for those women why is the Union government interfering in triple Talaq?”, he questioned.

While concluding Shafi said, “If the Union government is willing to implement Uniform Civil code, let them implement according to their religion. We will not tolerate if anyone interferes in the triple Talaq or talk against the Sharia. If Modi wants to win the elections in UP let him find some other way to please the women and not to talk about Triple Talaq showing concern for Muslim women. On November 12, we will be having a mass protest and we will discuss on the Uniform Civil Code”, he said.

Addressing the protesters Qazi of Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan Qazi Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar said, “All the issues on Talaq are very clear in Islam. Divorce in Islam involves the pronouncement by a husband to his wife. Except for a waiting period of 3 menstrual periods, the mere pronouncement of the phrase by a man executes a divorce from his wife according to Islamic law.”

He further briefed, “According to Islamic law, provided a divorced woman agrees to return to her former husband and provided that she had not since remarried another man, a man is allowed to reconcile with a woman he has divorced up to 2 times. The first reconciliation can occur after his first divorce to a woman to whom he has pronounced talaq. The second reconciliation can occur after a second divorce to the same woman after the second pronouncement of talaq. If after the second reconciliation the man divorces the same woman a third time by pronouncing talaq to her, he may no longer reconcile with her. If the couple wants to reconcile after a third Talaq is completed, the Quran states that there is no harm in doing so but this may only be accomplished after the wife has married another man and has divorced him. This marriage and divorce to another man must be in good faith, and not for the mere purpose of reconciling a third time with her initial husband”.

While Concluding Ibrahim said, “We have leaders to correct any Muslims who violate the Sharia law. We are Indians and we want to live in our country peacefully. We are not forcing everyone to be a Muslim, but whoever are Muslim, they should live as Muslims. We will not tolerate if anyone interferes in our religious matters. We are Indians and will support our country against any aggression on our country, be it from Pakistan, China or other countries. We want to follow our religion and live in peace. We need to lead a peaceful life in our country. We are all united and if anyone interferes in our religious matters we will not sit quiet, we will fight back”.

Abdul Hameed Bajpe delivered the keynote address.

If it wasn’t for the main banner in Kannada language in the background, I would have ignored this as a report from Karachi or Kaabul. By the way, where are women in the crowd who are most affected by these 7th century religious laws? Honestly, I don’t expect anything better from politicians from ‘vote bank’ political party. I don’t expect anything from self-declared, rusted rationalists either. However, I have a simple question for every stenographer and chorus boy/girl in media – Are you really proud of what you are witnessing here? Do you really believe in equal rights for women?… Read more »

Thank you for supporting India from Pakistan. God bless. We have decided not to interfere with your religious beliefs. Will leave in peace. Please condemn terror attacks in India or other parts of the world.

No one will interfere in your religious matters if you live in the 21st century. The people that interfered in this case are your own “victims” of institutionalized corruption in the name of religion.

PM Modi’s ‘minimum government, maximum governance’ these days acts like ‘matrimonial website’. He should take former Vajpayee’s advise of ‘Ram Rajya’ seriously than interfering in constitutional religious freedom. Since he became CM of Gujarat and PM of India there are more women getting widowed than before.Instead of challenging the code of Almighty Allah,he should better ensure the safety of women. I strongly doubt Supreme court Judges,Ministry of law or People’s representative have any sound knowledge of holy book of Islam. Allah has taken the responsibility of Preserving and protecting holy book of Quran from all type of corruption; We have without… Read more »
