No Protest on December 20, Rumours Mongers will be Severely Dealt with – Dr Harsha

Mangaluru: “In the entire country people oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 and stage protests against it. In Mangaluru also various organizations have staged protests against the CAB. We had received 6 applications and we have given them permission to hold the protest peacefully. At the same time, there are many others who are spreading rumours through WhatsApp about a huge protest in Mangaluru on December 20. So far we have not received any intimation or application from any of the organizations to hold the protest on December 20. If anyone tries to hold a protest without permission and causes damage the public property they will be severely dealt with. Action will also be taken against those who spread rumours about a protest on December 20 and 23”, warned Police commissioner, Dr Harsha, during a press meet held at his office here on December 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Dr Harsha said, “Recently some organizations without taking permission from the police, blocked the road and damaged public property. In this connection, we have arrested 38 protesters and taken action. Action will be taken against those who continue to protest against the CAB without taking permission. We have already discussed this issue with the concerned leaders and they have cooperated well. We have also held discussions with those whose names have mentioned in messages on the social media of holding the protest and they have clearly said that they have not called for any protest on December 20 or 23”.

Dr Harsha further said, “We have noticed that some people sitting in other countries are inciting people to raise their voice against the CAB with inciting messages which is against the law. Action will also be taken against them. Some have used social media to announce and call for a huge protest on December 20 and 23 with names of some organizations. The religious leaders and the heads of the organizations have denied of any such call for protest.  The police department also has not received any application seeking permission to hold protests on December 20 and 23. I request the rumour mongers to refrain from misleading the people to creating problems.”

Dr Harsha also said, “Many leaders of various organizations said that they want peace in the city and they will not hold any protest without the permission of the police. Everyone has the right to protest and we will not deny permission to hold a peaceful protest. At the same time, it is the duty of everyone to maintain law and order in the city. I urge the people of Mangaluru to co-operate with the police to maintain law and order in the city so that everyone leads a peaceful life”.

DCP Law and order Arunagshu Giri was also present.
