Not a April Fool Prank! Auto Rickshaw Minimum Fare Up from Rs 25 to Rs 30 Effective 1 April

Mangaluru: It is not a April Fool prank, but for real, that the minimum fare of auto rickshaw in City will go up from Rs 25 to Rs 30 ( for 1.5 km) effective 1 April 2020. And this fare was revised during a meeting held by Deputy Commissioner and RTA Chairperson Ms Sindhu B. Rupesh, while addressing the large group of Auto drivers and owners. The Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority (RTA) decided to revise the auto-rickshaw fares in the district, to become effective on April 1, with minimum fare going up to ₹ 30 from ₹ 25 for a minimum distance of 1.5 km.

The per kilometre fare thereafter 1.5 km was increased by Rs 1 from the present Rs 14 to Rs 15 during the meeting. Drivers/ owners have been given time till March 31 to recalibrate the digital fare meters with revised fares, while they have to compulsorily display the fare chart inside the vehicle.

Ms. Rupesh made it clear that auto-rickshaw drivers may collect fares one-and-a-half time the normal fares for rides between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. There will no Waiting charges for the first 15 minutes and it would be Rs 5 for the next 15 minutes. There would be no charges for luggage if passenger carries up to 20 kg, while the next 20 kg would be charged at Rs 5 or part thereof.

During the meeting DC Sindhu said, “We have held this meeting to revise the auto rickshaw fare considering the frequent increase in the cost of maintenance and fuel. Similarly, the demands of various auto-rickshaw unions also have been revised before revising the fare. Various auto-rickshaw drivers and owners associations had represented to the RTA to revise the fares following steep increase in the cost of inputs, including petrol/fuel price increase, as well as cost of living. The associations had told the authority that the fares were last revised in 2016.
