Nottingham, UK: MUKA Elects Vincent D’Souza as President

Nottingham, UK: The members of Mangalorean United Konkani Association (MUKA) came together for Biennial General Body Meeting on 5th April, 2015 after the Easter celebrations at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Nottingham. Jeevan Menezes led the prayer invoking God’s blessings on the gathering. John Fernandes, the outgoing president, welcomed all the members and expressed his gratitude to all the office bearers and members for their support during his tenure. Secretary Deepak Alvares read out the report and Teasurer Stany Sequeira presented the Accounts for the year 2013-15. Both, the Biennial report and the Accounts were passed by the body.

The elected office bearers for the year 2015-17 are as follows:

Vincent D’Souza – President
Lydia Lewis – Vice-President
Pius Rasquinha – Secretary
Naveen Lobo – Treasurer
Jeevan Menezes – Communications Co-ordinator
Anitha Sequeira – Cultural Secretary
Deepak Alvares – Liturgical Secretary
John Fernandes, Julian Noronha, Melwin D’Souza – Additional committee members.

Vincent D’Souza, the founder president of MUKA, accepting his second term thanked outgoing president John Fernandes for leading the association successfully. He asked support from the new committee and members, and promised that he will strive to bring the community together for the betterment and promotion of Konkani.

A discussion was held with regards to organising the programmes for the current year and it was decided that the annual summer day out event will be held on Saturday 25th July, 2015.

The meeting concluded with a hymn.
