Novena Begins for Annual Feast of Attur Basilica, 15 feet High Statue Inaugurated
Karkala: The nine-day novena services for the preparation of the Annual Feast of St Lawrence Minor Basilica Attur, Karkala began on Sunday, January 19.
The Novena service was inaugurated by Sunil Kumar MLA Karkala along with Joylus D’Souza Chairman of Christian Development Authority.
Addressing the gathering MLA Sunil Kumar said that the Attur feast is known all over the world and is the place of worship from all religions. The state government is committed to providing all types of support for the development of this pilgrimage center, he said.
Fr George D’Souza, Rector of the Minor Basilica, Fr Roy Lobo, assistant priest, Fr Stephen D’Souza director for Liturgy Commission, ZP member Reshma Uday Shetty, Nitte GP president Sabitha Poojary, vice president Gopal Shetty, APMC former president Antony D’Souza Nakre, John D’Silva, Santhosh D’Silva, Melwin Castelino, Leena D’Silva, John D’Silva Mumbai and others were present.
The annual feast of St Lawrence Minor Basilica will be celebrated from January 26 to 30.
15 feet high statue of St Lawrence Inaugurated
Prior the mass Udupi Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo blessed a 15 feet high statue of St Lawrence at the St Lawrence Minar Basilica Attur, Karkala on Sunday, January 19.
The 15 feet height Statue of St Lawrence is built on the top of a 32 feet high rock in memory of Late Leena D’Silva and Family Kuntalpadi, Karkala.
