NRI Forum to bring NRK organizations under One Umbrella – Dr Arathi
Mangaluru: “For the welfare of the Non-Resident Kannadigas the state government has framed an NRI policy. The main objectives of the policy are to encourage and promote all the activities that are in line with the interests of NRIs residing overseas. To assist NRIs working overseas in moments of crisis in close coordination with the ministry of overseas Indian Affairs and to establish a knowledge and skill bank and facilitate networking among NRIs,” said the deputy chairperson of the NRI Forum Dr Arathi Krishna in a press meet held at the DC office here on March 14.
Addressing the mediapersons Dr Arathi said, “After forming the NRI forum, a committee of 21 members have been formed and all the 21 members visited Kerala to study the model of the NRI forum there. After a thorough study, MLA J R Lobo submitted the report to the government and during the session, urged the government to reserve Rs 50 crore for providing innovative services to the NRI community. I urged the government to set aside Rs 10 crores for the development of the forum”.
The objectives:
To encourage and promote all the activities that are in line with the interests of NRIs residing overseas.
To assist NRIs working overseas in moments of crisis in close coordination with the ministry of overseas Indian Affairs New Delhi and respective Embassies.
To establish NRI Forum’s overseas facilitation centers at Select places in Karnataka for providing training and orientation to the job seekers abroad.
To provide assistance to NRIs residing overseas in promoting literary and cultural activities of Karnataka.
To establish a knowledge and skill bank and facilitate networking among NRIs.
To promote, formulate and implement programmes of interest to NRIs in the fields of education, technology transfer and research.
To encourage NRIs to participate in development programmes in areas of academics and socio-economic spheres like the adoption of villages, schools, temples, animals etc.
Action plan for 2017-18:
To strengthen the NRI forum in the state.
State level and district level NRIs/NRKs Welfare committees.
Non-Resident Kannadiga (NRK) card
Connecting NRIs / NRKs and engaging them in social and development projects.
Promotion of Kannada and Karnataka’s festivities among NRIs/NRKs.
Creating a network of Non-Resident Kannadigas and organisations.
Creation of a database on NRIs/NRKs
“Namma Ooru – Namma Nadu”, an initiative for NRIs/NRKs connecting NRIs/NRKs organisations across the globe.
Encourage Kannada Kootas all over the world.
Participation in Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
Facilitation of NRIs/NRKs investments in Karnataka.
Promotion of economic and knowledge engagement of NRIs/NRKs.
NRIs/NRKs entrepreneurs guidance cell.
Package of Incentives and concessions for NRI investments.
Sister City arrangements, facilitation of knowledge transfer by NRKs.
Encouraging Cross-border Entrepreneurship
Business Incubation Centre for NRKs.
Facilitation of General Welfare issues of NRIs/NRKs.
Encouraging Kannadigas to take up overseas employment.

Isn’t this NRI Forum a private business started by a politician called Ganesh Karnik with his Kannadiga friends?
Why would any non-resident Karnataka associations go under the “umbrella” of a private company?
I understand that they are promoting it well. But any money collected might end up in private hands with no benefit to the members.
I don’t think I will be a member, unless there is a guarantee offered by the Government of Karnataka.
