NRSS to Hold Surgical Strike from Jan 26 on Yettinahole Project

Mangaluru: “After meeting the chief minister, we did not get any positive response. To take a positive decision, we met the Chief minister but we did not get any support from him. We will start our surgical strike from January 26, we will inform the media on how to take this agitation related to Yettinahole project forward. We will take the MPs, MLAs, MLCs, corporators and elected members into confidence and continue our agitation”, said the president of Netravati Rakshana Samyukta Samiti Vijay Kumar Shetty in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on January 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Vijay Kumar Shetty said, “On January 16, there was a case in the National green tribunal but it has been postponed to January 20. The judge had given the deadline on January 14, to submit the report of the survey done on January 2 and 3. But due to the negligence of the government officers, the survey report has not been submitted. This is the negligence of the politicians and the government officers. The government officers are using the politicians and making money. Both the politicians and the government officers are equally responsible since the government officers are very much aware of the weakness of the politicians. Even the Survey was not done properly without any co-ordination. The case was fixed on January 16 but the government said that they needed more time to appear before the court. Now the judge has given the time to January 20 and the case will be heard on that day. “

Vijay Kumar Shetty also said, “If the district minister in-charge takes a firm decision to stop the project, the project would have been dropped but Ramanath Rai is not showing any interest. Even Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and other leaders had met Yeddyurappa and convinced him about the problems faced by the people of DK if the Yettinahole project continues. We are fighting against the elected government. We need time and support from the people. It is possible for the district minister in-charge to stop the project but he is not opening his mouth. He is only interested to retain his chair. He may have done some development work in Bantwal but being a district minister in-charge his duty is to pressurise the government to stop the project. Companies that have been blacklisted in seven states have been given the contract to carry out the Yettinahole project work.”

Member of NRSS Satyajit Suratkal said, “We have protested against the project but the people of DK are not coming out to fight against it. If they don’t get water they will call the MCC to provide water. We have tried our best to stop this project. Now the people of DK should understand the problem and raise their voice. This is not a political fight, people of DK should get together and fight against this project forgetting party differences. It is time for the political leaders of DK to make a decision.”

When asked about the possibility of mass resignation by politicians to stop the Yettinhole project, “Satyajeet said, “From the past three years there were many protests against the project. Some of the MPs nd MLAs are ready to resign but the people are still not ready to come forward and fight against the project. People should question the local corporators and the gram panchayat members”, he said.

Members of NRSS Monappa Bhandary and Sashiraj Kolambe were also present.
