NS Stages Protest against HDK Govt for Hike in Fuel and Electricity charges

Udupi: The Nagarika Samiti led by Social Activist Nithyananda Volakadu staged a protest on Tuesday, July 10, against the State government for the hike in fuel and electricity charges in the state budget which was presented by chief minister Kumaraswamy recently.

To show their anger over the hike in fuel price, the protesters protested in a unique way by cycling and pulling the bullock cart. The protesters took out a rally from Diana circle through KM Marg, Triveni Circle, Service Bus-stand, Head Post office road and calumniated at the Chittaranjan Circle.

Speaking to the media persons Nagarika Samiti President Nithyananda Volakadu said “Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had announced a tax hike for petrol and diesel in the Budget. There was also a hike in the electricity charges which is condemnable. People are using fuel and electricity on daily basis. The steep hike in the prices of petrol and diesel would add to the current inflationary trend and lead to a further increase in the prices of other commodities”.

“The amount of rice given free-of-cost in the Anna Bhagya scheme has been reduced from 7 kg to 5 kg per person. Coastal districts provide the highest revenue to the state government and now we are neglected in the budget. There is no programme for Udupi district in Kumarswamy’s recent budget. The budget presented by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy neglected the coastal and northern regions and favoured only the districts in the old Mysuru region”.

“The chief minister should reduce the price of petrol and diesel which should be available for Rs 40 to 50. The CM should also increase the rice from 5 Kg to 10 Kg per person under the Anna Bhagya scheme”, he demanded.
