NSUI demands to form Counselling Committees in Colleges, Condemns Akshatha’s Murder

Mangaluru: “We condemn the brutal murder of a girl student by her college mate at Nehru College, Sullia on February 20. Such incidents should not occur in the future. NSUI requests all the colleges to form Counselling Committees to prevent further incidents from taking place on their campuses. The College authorities should see that the Counselling Committees are pro-active in preventing such crimes”, said NSUI District President Abdulla Binnu in a press meet held at the District Congress office here on February 21.

Addressing the mediapersons Abdulla Binnu said, “NSUI is not politicising this incident but the BJP National President who was in the district during the incident did not raise this issue. If any Hindu is killed, BJP leaders say that they are their party workers and play politics over the dead body. But when an innocent girl was stabbed to death in the college by her collegemate the BJP did not raise its voice which the NSUI strongly condemns.”

Abdulla further said, “In Akshatha’s murder case since the opposition cannot get any mileage, they have maintained silence. If the student was of a different faith would have committed the crime, the BJP would have made it a communal issue. The Congress party always concentrates on development. This is the difference between the Congress and the BJP”.

Addressing the mediapersons President of Mahila Congress Shalet Pinto said, “In the district, girls have been the victims of immoral policing. On February 20, an innocent girl student was stabbed to death by a male student in Sullia. In such cases, the college authorities should also take the responsibility and work towards avoiding such incidents occurring on the campuses.

Convener of NSUI Suhan Alva, Joshua D’Souza, Abdul Rahman, Neeraj Pal and others were also present.
