National Students Union of India (NSUI ) to Probe & Protest Against Government’s SSLC Valuation Goof-Up Causing Injustice to Students- and will also file PIL in the High Court against the State Government in this regard through their advocate in Bengaluru

Mangaluru: In the month of June 2020, Congress students wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) had protested in front of the Education Minister Suresh Kumar house in Bengaluru, demanding the cancellation of the SSLC examinations. Members of the NSUI had stated that many students will have to suffer problems due to the COVID-19 crisis in the State if the SSLC examination is allowed to occur. But the protesters were immediately arrested by the police. Meantime, Minister Suresh Kumar had clarified that there was no question of stopping the examination in the State as was done in other States due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A woman from Belgaum had also filed an appeal in the Supreme Court to stop the examinations which the Court rejected. However, the SSLC exams went on.
Two months later, National Student Union of India (NSUI) state general-secretary, Farooq Bayabe addressing the media during a press meet held at DK Congress Committee Meeting hall, Mallikatta-Mangaluru , said ” NSUI demands that the state government initiates a high-level inquiry into the SSLC valuation Goof-Up, where many students who had failed have secured pass marks after revaluation. Many students were affected by the irregularities in valuation in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. There are 748 cases wherein valuation was NOT properly conducted, and students had to face injustice. We urge that the government take strong action against the evaluators for creating such blunders in evaluating the SSLC answer sheets”

“We also urge Education Minister Suresh Kumar, who posts all other issues on his Facebook account, should also include this issue of SSLC valuation blunder. Prior to announcement of SSLC results, the Minister on his Facebook gave some inspiring notes to the students, but now after all this goof-up in valuation, the minister has remained quite and has not taken any action. After revaluation several students have got their marks enhanced, thus qualifying for next grade. This blunder created by the evaluators has put the students in stress, depression, and many were on the verge of committing suicide. The hefty fee for re-totaling, getting photocopies of answer scripts and revaluation has deprived many students their during the economic crisis triggered by Covid-19. It should be noted that the government education board is charging Rs 405 to get scanned copies of the answer sheets and Rs 805 per subject for revaluation. NSUI condemns such a move by the government” added Farooq.

Farooq further said “NSUI urges Minister Suresh Kumar to inform the people of the state about this valuation blunder, and initiate stringent action on the careless evaluators. We also demand Lokayukta and ACB probe into this issue, and all those evaluators found guilty after investigation, should be terminated from their jobs. The government should also publicize openly with a statement on this issue, so that the public knows about it. Once the colleges start on 1 October as announced by the government, NSUI will campaign at various education institutions against the rise in drugs menace among students , and bring awareness on ragging”

NSUI District General Secretary, Sawad Sullia, NSUI RTI State Coordinator Anvith Kateel, NSUI Mangaluru President Shownak Rai, NSUI Bantwal President Vinay Kumar, and secretaries Satish Alakemajalu and Shafeeq others were present.
